THE LIVES OF OTHERSAndrea Agostini
Water Is an Act of Faith

This work explores the fragile balance between man, water, and spirituality in Mozambique, one of the areas in the world most affected by the catastrophic effects of climate change.
In Africa water is more than just a necessity: it is a sacred gift, a powerful symbol of faith and resilience, and – unfortunately – a source of both life and death.
In August 2023, Andrea received an assignment from the NGO “Amici per l’Africa” to document their mission while its aid workers were building four drinking water wells – together with the locals – in the surroundings of the city of Beira.
While documenting the wells construction, this parallel project took shape: a more conceptual and poetic research that embodies the strengths and spirituality of a people in the face of adversity, honoring the resilience and beauty harbored in their souls.

Andrea Agostini is a photographer and storyteller born and raised in Venice. He studied History of Cinema at the University of Padua. After graduating, he moved to Rome to work as a documentary filmmaker.
His love for photography blossomed relatively late, but it was inevitable. Cinema had always been his passion, and photography is its essential foundation. In his works, he has always explored the concept of the “Elsewhere”, as it offers a broader scope for discovery, adventure, and wonder. In recent years he returned to his home country to rediscover his own “Elsewhere”, focusing on the themes of identity and belonging.
Andrea’s photography is now more intimate and personal. He strives to capture the essence of his subjects, their vulnerabilities and resilience, always looking a gentle poetic.
His works have received several recognitions and have been exhibited internationally.
