Fondazione Sella presents a selection of images created by Vittorio Sella (Biella, 1859-1943) throughout his long career as a photographer and mountaineer. Sella was among the first to introduce photographic practice in high-altitude environments, using large-format negatives to produce images with significant documentary and artistic value. This is an overview of the main Alpine and extra-European mountain groups, with particular attention to the expeditions in the Caucasus (1889, 1890, and 1896), where a strong focus on ethnographic details emerges.
