🇮🇹 Nel vecchio continente pagare per prendere una donna in sposa non sembra essere una pratica che appartiene al Medioevo. Secondo l’ottica occidentale questa tradizione equivale al traffico di esseri umani, ma la minoranza etnica Kalaidzhi (originaria della Bulgaria) vede il pagamento come una prova delle buone intenzioni dell’aspirante sposo e come una dimostrazione di poter garantire un buon livello di vita alla futura moglie. Questa comunità patriarcale si distingue da altre per la pratica chiamata “mercato delle spose”.

🇬🇧 In the Old Continent paying to marry a young woman seems not to be a practice that belongs to the Middle Ages. In the Western perspective this tradition is equivalent to human trafficking, but the Roma ethnic minority Kalaidzhi (Bulgaria) sees the payment as proof of the aspirer husband’s pure intentions and as a token of the good life they hope to secure for their daughter. This patriarchal clan is distinguished from others by the so-called ‘bride market’.
