Lost Roots

🇮🇹 Questo progetto espone una panoramica delle conseguenze disastrose causate dal batterio Xylella fastidiosa nel Salento, dieci anni dopo la sua comparsa. Partendo dagli oltre 20 milioni di ulivi morti, sino alle ferite causate all’identità di della comunità locale, questo lavoro presenta lo sradicamento di una pratica secolare e della cultura, che nell’ultima decade ha fatto piombare la regione e i suoi abitanti in un inferno.

🇬🇧 This project aims at creating an overview of the devastating effects caused by the plant bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, 10 years after its appearance in Salento (Italy), from the more than 20 million dead olive trees to the deeper wounds affecting the identity of the local community. This is the story of how the uprooting of a centuries-old history and culture has plunged a region and its inhabitants into a hell during the last decade.
